noTourist Wine & Food Tour (10 Days)

Overview

THE TOUR

The noTourist Wine & Food Tour is a culinary adventure through the countries surrounding the Adriatic Sea – Croatia and Slovenia – the most northern part of the Mediterranean region. This tour is perfect for those who find that food is an essential part of local culture but do not want to cut on sightseeing experiences, either. “noTourist” means that we try to give you the real food & wine experiences instead of taking you to the ordinary mass-tourist spots.

FOOD & ROUTE

The Adriatic region is a multi-cultural and geographically very diverse area. Feel the Alpine charm of Slovenia and the laid-backness of coastal Croatia. In between, you’ll sense that Italy is not that far away, either. Medieval hilltop towns, Alpine lakes, urban city centres, ancient ruins, and islands smelling after Mediterranean herbs represent the sightseeing part of this trip. The culinary part is defined by world-class wines, extra virgin olive oils, truffles, fresh-caught fish, dried and aged meats, homegrown vegetables and fruits. All in all a fine balance between food and sightseeing experiences.

HOTELS

All hotels are double-checked by our Krug Travel Team. Sometimes we pick a hotel because the location is simply great and another time it is a bit further away from the old town but the atmosphere is wonderful and staying there is very pleasant. We like hotels that make you feel welcome and hopefully you will share this feeling, too. Usually, our hotels have three to four stars. GOOD TO KNOW: Croatia and Slovenia have great hotels and three stars aren’t regarded as a sign of low quality. Sometimes three-star hotels are better and more boutique than four-star hotels and that’s the reason why we pick them. However, we are always striving for four-stars.

PROFESSIONAL GUIDE

All our guides are experienced and trained professionals. They take care of the organization of the trip so that you can enjoy without worrying about “getting to the places” and to bother to find the best spots. The guides also know all the people who will serve you with their culinary delicacies which makes the atmosphere more friendly rather than “touristy”. Those details are important to us and we believe that this approach makes the difference.

For lunch, you’ll sit down in a typical Slovenian Gostilna (family-run restaurant) and you’ll enjoy finest homemade food. Then, you’ll visit Ljubljana during a walking tour. Also, you will try some of the finest orange wines. No, they are not made of oranges. DAY 5 – TRUFFLE KINGDOM ISTRIA – Truffle hunting in Istria

We are talking about the fantastic Škocjan Caves. After crawling out of the caves and seeing daylight again you’ll join a truffle hunt in the protected forest of Motovun followed by a delicious truffle lunch. Eventually, you’ll do the check-in and walk to a winery nearby to enjoy fine Istrian grape varieties in their best form.

You’ll have a long afternoon to explore the lakes just in your own pace. The guide will, however, offer a guided tour and you are welcome to join. No food experiences today. However, there will be several food options along the way. Get some soul food!

Including:

• Breakfast

DAY 8 – DALMATIAN BOAT CRUISING – Transfer trip to Split and Korčula Island

Today, you’ll visit Split during a walking tour followed by some free. After Split, you jump on a boat. For ages, all these small fisher villages on Korčula Island could only be reached by boat. Today, there are ferries and roads which connect all these small towns. However, we do it the old-fashioned way to get ourselves into the Adriatic mood.
